One Day Strike - April 29th - to protest Unfair Labor Practices and school closures
Tue, Apr 26 9:36am

Good afternoon Hillcrest Families,

There will be no classroom instruction on Friday, April 29.

This year the OUSD school board voted to close 11 schools. These closures negatively impact the entire Oakland community and disproportionately harm Black and Brown students and students with special needs. 93% of students at the schools affected by the plan are considered either lower-income, English learners, or foster youth. 18 schools have been closed in Oakland since 2004. 16 of the 18 schools closed had over 60% Black students. By not properly engaging with the community over school closures, OUSD has broken contract with teachers and engaged in Unfair Labor Practices (ULP).

Hillcrest stands against ALL school closures. This is why we are participating in a district-wide, one-day ULP strike on Friday, April 29

We stand in solidarity with all of the following schools targeted for closure:

  • Brookfield Elementary, Parker Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary, Carl B. Munck Elementary, Hillcrest MS, Grass Valley ES, Korematsu Discovery Academy, RISE Academy, New Highland Academy, Community Day School, and La Escuelita 6-8

One Day ULP Strike Schedule on Friday, April 29

  • 7:30-9:30a School Picket Line @ Hillcrest
  • 11:00a Save Our School Block Party @ Lake Merritt Amphitheater
  • 2:00p Rally at City Hall/March to 1000 Broadway
