Last Week's Board Meeting: Thank You Hillcrest Parents!!

We more than doubled our attendance at last week’s board meeting from the previous week, both in person and on Zoom. Amaaaaaazing!!

A Hillcrest parent who attended their first OUSD board meeting last week had this to say about the experience:

I initially felt uncomfortable and insecure about going for my first time but I’m deeply grateful to Meghan and Oliver for being veterans and encouraging me to come. The more you participate, the more comfortable and secure you feel in knowing what to say.

It’s educational and emotional to see how the school board meetings are run and every parent should go at least once to understand the process. ...we all have a voice to use. -- Hillcrest Parent

BE A PART OF THE MOVEMENT TO EDUCATE PARENTS AND PUT PRESSURE ON THE BOARD TO SUPPORT OUR KIDS' PUBLIC EDUCATION

Plan to attend the final meeting before the November Election.

We already have several parents signed up. Join them! Bring a Friend!

RSVP via Konstella to the OUSD School Board meeting 10/26

What is the Job of a School Board Director?*

  • Setting the direction for the community’s schools.
  • Establishing an effective and efficient structure for the school district, including establishing budget priorities.
  • Providing support to the superintendent and staff as they carry out the direction of the board, including being knowledgeable enough about district efforts to explain them to the public.
  • Ensuring Accountability to the Public, including establishing systems and processes to monitor results to evaluate the school system's progress toward accomplishing their vision and goals and communicate that progress to their community.
  • Acting as Community Leaders; as the only locally elected officials chosen solely to represent the interest of schoolchildren; board members also have a responsibility to speak out on behalf of those children and advocate for students.
