Happy Halloween and Spirit Week Hillcrest Community!
Next week is Spirit Week for students, teachers, and (parents/guardians). The idea is to provide some fun for kids while also building community. For younger students, it might be helpful to give them some pointers about how they might embrace the theme for each day. We appreciate your help and partnership in making it an enjoyable week!
Hillcrest Spirit Week 2020 (10/26-10/30)
Monday: Sports/Hillcrest Swag Day (rock your Warriors or A’s gear (or any team), your latest Hillcrest swag, or keep it simple and wear Hillcrest red!)
Tuesday: Dress to Impress Day (party dress or bowtie anyone?)
Wednesday: Decades/Hat Day (choose a decade from our history to dress up as OR wear a funny/cool hat)
Thursday: Pajama Day (roll out of bed!)
Friday: Costume Day (Halloween)...Virtual Halloween Parade
You are cordially invited to the first ever (and hopefully the last) Virtual Halloween Parade! Dare you ask how this will happen without a zombie apocalypse taking over our zooms? Mwaaaa haaa haaaa!
The parade will be on Friday, October 30th:

**Please be ready to turn your video on and off to make sure it all runs smoothly**
Please ensure that your child's costume is non-violent, non-gory, culturally and religiously sensitive, and school-appropriate. No toy weapons should be visible to viewers.
This short video explains through the eyes of six young women how "cultural" costumes can be hurtful and can be an inadvertent racial and ethnic slight. In light of the research on how schools across the country are seeing increased overt expressions of racism and intolerance given the political climate, this video educates us all on how we must commit to culturally responsive decisions that honor all of our students and their cultural identity. Please extend this consideration to religious and faith traditions as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. McCormick -- email@example.com.
Thank you, and Happy Halloween!
