Dear Community Members,
I am writing to let you know that Hillcrest is preparing for a limited reopening on March 30th, and all K-6 students and priority 7th and 8th grade students will be welcomed back on April 19th when all teachers return for in-person instruction.
Hillcrest will open some classrooms next week for the below groups:
- K-2 classes whose teachers have opted for an early return -- Classes with an early return have already been notified.
- Priority students in all grades -- These students were selected using a number of equity-based criteria (including groups identified in SB86). These families will receive a separate communication with details within the next 48 hours.
At this time, we have insufficient staff who opted into an early return to open all K-2 classrooms in a way that keeps all of our students and staff members safe. Substitute teachers were considered but the logistical challenges could not be overcome by March 30th.
Schedules and Cohorts will be shared with families this Friday, March 25th, for the April 19th return date. Additionally, we will have family information sessions the evening of March 31st. More information will follow.
In the meantime, all students will continue to participate in regularly scheduled distance learning.
Navigating through a pandemic has been extremely difficult for our community and I want to thank you for your continued support as we work together to provide students with a positive educational experience. I look forward to seeing students back at Hillcrest in the coming weeks.
