Yes, teachers have a tentative agreement, however, services that directly affect students continue to be reduced. The district needs to look to their own “salary house” and adjust those salaries. Any services which are a lifeline for student achievement, health, safety, and emotional well-being must be restored.

1. The IT Department: How long does it take to change a Promethean bulb? It is standard for it to take 8-12 weeks. Student laptops cannot be serviced for months as well. $25,000 per classroom was the initial technology investment of the district and now they cannot maintain the technology. Student curriculum and testing are all online. Cutting the service technicians in this department put our students at a disadvantage.

2. Restore counseling and nurse time. If you have read the news lately you will know that our students need counselors on consistent days of the week. In addition, we have students with severe health problems and no nurse on Wednesdays. These positions are direct lifelines to the emotional, physical well-being and safety of our students.

3. Students need clean learning environments. Custodial services in the evening hours at Holmes have been cut 50 percent. As a result, classrooms, bathrooms and the general campus is not cleaned regularly. This cut in custodial services is detrimental to the health of staff and students. 4. Bungalow Bathroom: Did you know that over 100 kindergarteners at Holmes share three toilets? At times kindergarteners are not able to even wash their hands. The district needs to provide a bungalow bathroom in the kindergarten area. How can over 20% of our student population be denied a basic necessity? SDUSD keeps forgetting that school districts exist to support students and the services that directly relate to them. SDUSD needs to prioritize those positions at the Education Center and put the money back into students! Please join us tomorrow afternoon to present our concerns to Trustee Evans.

We need your voice to support these issues. We need the district to hear our concerns and makes changes that work for our students.
