PARENT EDUCATION EVENTS INFORMATION for October

Dear Hoover Parents,
Here are a few parent education events happening this October.
 
1. Workshop on IEP (Individual Education Plan) for Special Education & 504 Plan -- on Sat, Oct 5th, 9 AM - 12 PM, JLS Middle School Room 730, 480 East Meadow Drive, Palo Alto.
This free workshop covers the basics of the IEP/ 504 plan including some common problems, complications, solutions, and suggestions. There will be a discussion about common accommodations and parental rights, and a Q & A session during this workshop. Organized by Palo Alto CAC (cacpaloalto.org), presented by H.E.A.L. (Hospital Educational Advocacy Liaisons Program from Stanford Children’s Health), and co-sponsored by PTAC. Please use this form to let us know if you are coming, especially if you would like childcare or Spanish translation.
 
2. Families Connecting Across Generations: is a workshop series focused on helping immigrant families navigate through generational & cultural differences. Held on all Wednesdays from 10/2 to 11/20 from 6.30 pm - 8 pm at Palo Alto High School, Room 301 
 
3. Coaching Emotional Intelligence in Elementary School students: Two-part presentation by Jaclyn Long
(i) On October 8th, from 6 pm -7.30 pm at Duveneck Multi-purpose room 
(ii) On October 22nd, from 6 pm - 7.30 pm at Walter Hays Multi-purpose room
 
4. ANGST the Movie on Wednesday, Oct 16, from  6:45 pm -8:15 pm in the Fletcher Middle School Gym.
The Fletcher PTA will be screening "Angst," a film that explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it. The filmmakers’ goal is to raise awareness around anxiety. Angst features candid interviews with kids and young adults who suffer from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts, as well as help, resources, and tools
