Dear Hugo Reid Family,

We are deeply saddened to share with you that members of our Hugo Reid community have been impacted by the devastating Eaton Fire. We have staff members and families who have lost their homes and are trying to navigate the days and weeks ahead. We also have displaced staff members who are unsure of the status of their homes and are waiting to get word.

In this difficult time, we want to come together and offer our support to those who are facing significant loss and hardship. Their needs are immediate. If you would like to help, we have compiled a list of Hugo Reid community members who can benefit from your contribution.

Miss Lalaine, our Hugo Reid Primary Nurse, lost her home in the fire. She, along with her husband and 3 sons, are currently staying with family in the area and have secured temporary housing from Third Grade Teacher, Mrs. Sego. Staff are collecting basic household items for them to move in next week and a list of specific needs will be shared soon. A GoFundMe account has been set up in her name: https://gofund.me/b11deda9

Ms. Coulter, Fourth Grade Teacher, lost her Altadena home. She is staying with her parents in the area, along with her sister who also lost her Altadena home. We are collecting monetary donations for her through Ms. Moore: Venmo: @Alexis-Moore-298

The family of Hugo Reid 2nd Grade Student Jamison Yu (Parent is a district employee/instructional coach Ms. Lisa Yu) lost their home in the fire.  Due to the loss of their home and displacement, any gift cards to Target, Amazon, Uber Eats, Trader Joes would also help the Yu family get through the days and weeks ahead.  Another 2nd grade parent is collecting monetary donations on behalf of the Yu family.  You can Venmo @jennykcha if you would like to help.

Mrs. Jenna Morris, First Grade Teacher, lives in Altadena and is unable to assess the current status of her home due to police and National Guard presence in her neighborhood. Last reports they received were that their homes are still standing, but they cannot verify or get any essentials from their home at this time. Mrs. Morris, her husband Howard and their bird Tookie are staying with friends and moving into a temporary stay at a local hotel this week. Our staff is collecting Trader Joe's and Amazon gift cards to help Mrs. Morris with her immediate relief.

Mr. McMillan, Fourth Grade Teacher, is also displaced from his Altadena/Pasadena home as it has been damaged and will need time for rehabilitation. Mr. McMillan, his wife (an AUSD First Avenue Middle School Teacher), daughter, son and family dog are staying with family in Orange County until they are able to return and access their home. They left with very little due to the limited time they had to evacuate. Our staff is collecting and sending e-gift cards for temporary relief (Trader Joes, Amazon, Target, and Uber Eats) to help with immediate needs during their displacement and uncertainty for his family and pet.

Starting Monday, staff will be collecting any gift cards (Amazon, Trader Joes, Target, UberEats) or monetary donations toward these individuals with collection envelopes/baskets in the front offices. Teachers are also starting to collect gently used clothing or toiletries for the upcoming days and weeks for them as well. There will be donation baskets for physical donations in each Hugo Reid office.

Please know that any support you are able to provide is greatly appreciated, but participation is entirely voluntary.

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, and your support, whether large or small, can make a difference in the lives of those who have been impacted.

If you have another way you would like to support those who are impacted, please contact Dianna Malak Lopez, PTSA President, in order to coordinate.
