The Hyde-Addison Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force is a group of Hyde-Addison staff, teachers and parents interested in promoting equity and ending racism. To these ends, we are working on a variety of activities this year, including a monthly reading group discussion detailed below. Please join us by signing up for this committee here on Konstella. All are welcome!
We will be distributing a monthly newsletter, sharing tips on talking to your children about race and racism, suggesting home resources for children and adults on the topic, promoting the celebration of diversity at Hyde-Addison, and more.
The Task Force will host a reading group discussion via Zoom videoconference on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 9pm (Zoom link on Konstella calendar). Each month the group will discuss a few articles announced in the preceding task force newsletter, and at the last meeting of every academic quarter we'll also discuss a book.
At our Thursday, December 10 meeting, our theme will be equity and tech. We’ll discuss an article and episode of the 99% Invisible podcast, called The Age of the Algorithm, which discuss how computer algorithms shape our world and can reflect the biases of their human designers. We’ll also discuss the NPR News piece “‘The Computer Got It Wrong’: How Facial Recognition Led To False Arrest Of Black Man.” Please join us!
