Last Wednesday, Oct. 14, was our first PTA assembly, and what a fun way to kick it off! We were so happy to welcome Aron Nels Steinke, the author of the Mr. Wolf’s Class series and Speechless, to meet with our TK–3rd grade students!
He shared some of his childhood drawings and told the students about a character he once tried to draw but couldn’t finish because it was too hard. Did he give up? No! He took a break and came back to try again with fresh eyes.
He also shared that even today, he makes lots of drawings he doesn’t like. As he reminded the students, “Making mistakes is part of life and part of art!”
Next, he read the first chapter of The New Student. The highlight was his live drawing demonstration! He showed the students how he looked at a real object, thought about different viewing angles, started with a scribble sketch as a rough draft, then traced it and added more details to bring the drawing to life.
Check out some more photos of his assembly here, along with the final drawing he created especially for our Vargas students!
We hope the students had fun and were inspired to keep drawing and learning, even when it gets hard!
