Hello Vargas Community-
We hope you found the Lawrence Hall of Science Festival as enriching as we did! For a few hours, we all had a chance to put on our inventor hats and explore the world of science. It was fun building bridges, roller coasters, and rockets together and seeing the forces of physics in action. We learned about the breakthrough inventions Da Vinci Bridge and Keystone Bridge as well as stable paper roller coasters, wobbling markers that create art, and so much more. A heartfelt Thank You goes to Kim & Jessica for organizing this very special event and all the dedicated volunteers for supporting our mission of providing hands-on science experience to inspire the Golden Owls.
STEM+ Families Take-Home STEM Kits
We’re incredibly grateful to announce that thanks to the generous support of the National PTA’s STEM+ Families Science Festival program, sponsored by Bayer Fund, we are sharing a take-home STEM kit with every Vargas student. These kits are packed with materials and instructions for five engaging activities that students can dive into during Spring Break. This initiative wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support of our PTA community and partners like Bayer Fund, and we’re thrilled to offer these enriching experiences for our children. We hope you enjoy your time building together. And on that note, a heartfelt Thank You goes out to Sandy who spearheaded the assembly of 359 STEM kits with the generous assistance of numerous volunteers.
Square One Art Fundraiser (Order by April 19)
Your students will be bringing home a catalog (which includes personalized stickers!) for Square1 Art this week. This past month, Ms. June helped the students create a piece of artwork that was submitted to Square1 Art. Your child's artwork could shine on coffee mugs, key chains, and other keepsake items. Treat yourself for Mother’s Day or share it with family members.
To view the catalog online, simply search for your child's art using Art Search, and enter state, school name, and your student's name. Your student's art and code will appear, and you may order! **New this year, free shipping on all orders!

International Festival – Thursday, April 18 (5-7pm)
Our 2nd annual International Festival is coming up. This is one of our biggest events of the year, where we invite our incredibly diverse community to share their culture. Thus far, we count 18 countries, but we know we can do more. If you are interested in representing a country, please sign up here. Let’s travel around the world together and learn about as many countries as possible. Any typical food or tradition you can share will make our event more interesting.
21st Annual MVWSD Interscholastic Chess Tournament at Landels Elementary on Sunday, April 21, from 10:00am to 4:00pm
This district-wide chess tournament, hosted at Landels Elementary, is sponsored by PTAs. It is open to all MVWSD students, and it’s free to participate. Please register by April 20 if your child wishes to be part of a friendly competition with others who share their joy in strategic thinking. Questions about the event can be directed to Jonas Klittmark, tournament director, at mvwsdchess@gmail.com.
Vargas Night @ SJ Earthquakes vs LAFC – Thursday, May 4, starts 4:15pm
Join your fellow Vargas families and watch the SJ Earthquakes take on LAFC at Levi’s Stadium.

For each ticket purchased through this link, a small portion will go back to our school, so enjoy a fun night out while giving back to your school! We look forward to seeing you there in our Vargas section and cheering on the SJ Earthquakes together. We’ll wear our Vargas gear for special effects.
Spring Afterschool Activities
Many of our Spring afterschool classes have begun! Visit our website for details; here is a snippet of what’s available! We have something for each class (K-5).

- Need to get some of that energy out? There’s basketball (prorated rates apply), soccer, and Run for fun

- Want to build on your Mandarin? Hai Chinese can help.
As a reminder, limited scholarships are available. Classes that don’t meet enrollment requirements are subject to cancellation. If you would like your child to join a class, we would encourage you to sign up this week to not lose the opportunity for the last trimester.

¡Esperamos que el Festival del Lawrence Hall of Science le haya resultado tan enriquecedor como a nosotros! Durante unas horas, todos tuvimos la oportunidad de ponernos en el papel de inventor y explorar el mundo de la ciencia. Fue divertido construir puentes, montañas rusas y cohetes juntos y ver las fuerzas de la física en acción.
