Happy Friday, Golden Owls!
On May 5th, we are beginning to roll out the red carpet at JA Vargas Elementary! It’s time to recognize and celebrate our JA Vargas Stars and put a spotlight on those who shine a light for us and our children all year round! Our creative and caring Teacher Appreciation Week Chair Hazel has prepared a streamlined action plan for all of us, and we look forward to seeing our community come together and make that week yet another unforgettable event.
Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5th - May 10th
It’s almost time to show our teachers how much we appreciate them! PTA and room parents are planning some special activities, and we have already gotten a good idea of all the fun surprises that await. It’s just wonderful to see what a connected community can organize together.
Decorations: Come and help decorate Vargas Staff doors and campus on Sunday, May 5th 3-6pm.
Daily Activities: Different grades will have a day they can contribute food for the teachers. See a list of all the activities and sign-up opportunities here.

Lunchtime Chess on Wednesdays
We have a few more weeks of free lunchtime chess on Wednesdays with coach Wolfgang from 12-12:45pm. Bay Area Chess (BAC) brings all the boards and pieces. Surprise your Golden Owl(s) during your lunch break and make special memories together at Vargas! The last chance to visit is May 15th.
Vargas Night @ Levi’s Stadium – SJ Earthquakes vs LAFC – Saturday!, May 4, starts 4:15pm
Join your fellow Vargas families and watch the SJ Earthquakes take on LAFC at Levi’s Stadium.

For each ticket purchased through this link, a small portion will go back to our school, so enjoy a fun night out while giving back to your school! We look forward to seeing you there in our Vargas section and cheering on the SJ Earthquakes together. We’ll wear our Vargas gear for special effects.
- Update – We were just informed that they moved our entire Vargas section from the fourth to the second level. We were upgraded! PTA Executive Board Elections, Wednesday, May 22nd @ 6pm, Library
At our May PTA Association Meeting we will be having the general election to elect the executive board for the 2024/ 2025 Jose Antonio Vargas PTA.
Thank you to the nominees, both new and returning, who have volunteered to be part of the PTA board next year and the nominating committee who worked to find parents to fill the roles. Please attend this last PTA meeting of the year to ensure we have enough members to elect our next PTA Executive Board.

¡Feliz viernes, Golden Owls!
¡El 5 de mayo, comenzaremos a desplegar la alfombra roja en la Primaria JA Vargas! ¡Es hora de reconocer y celebrar a nuestras Estrellas JA Vargas y poner el foco en aquellos que iluminan para nosotros y nuestros niños durante todo el año! Hazel, nuestra creativa y atenta presidenta de la Semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros, ha preparado un plan de acción simplificado para todos nosotros, y esperamos ver a nuestra comunidad unirse y hacer de esa semana otro evento inolvidable.
Semana de agradecimiento a los maestros, del 5 al 10 de mayo
¡Es casi el momento de mostrarles a nuestros maestros cuánto los apreciamos! La PTA y los padres de salón están planeando algunas actividades especiales y ya tenemos una buena idea de todas las sorpresas divertidas que nos esperan. Es simplemente maravilloso ver lo que una comunidad conectada puede organizar en conjunto.
Decoraciones: Ven y ayuda a decorar las puertas y el campus del personal de Vargas el domingo 5 de mayo de 3 a 6 p.m.
Actividades diarios: Los diferentes grados tendrán un día en el que podrán aportar alimentos para los docentes. Vea una lista de todas las actividades y oportunidades de inscripción aquí.
Kudos Board: Deje un mensaje, video o imagen para los maestros y/o el personal aquí.
Ajedrez a la hora del almuerzo los miércoles
Tenemos algunas semanas más de ajedrez gratis a la hora del almuerzo los miércoles con el coach Wolfgang de 12:00 a 12:45. Bay Area Chess (BAC) trae todos los tableros y piezas. ¡Sorprenda a su(s) Golden Owl(s) durante la hora del almuerzo y creen recuerdos especiales juntos en Vargas! La última oportunidad es el 15 de mayo.

Elecciones de la Junta Ejecutiva de la PTA, miércoles 22 de mayo a las 6 p. m., Biblioteca
En nuestra reunión de la Asociación de la PTA de mayo tendremos la elección general para elegir la junta ejecutiva de la PTA de José Antonio Vargas 2024/2025.
Gracias a los nominados, tanto nuevos como recurrentes, que se ofrecieron como voluntarios para ser parte de la junta de la PTA el próximo año y al comité de nominaciones que trabajó para encontrar padres para ocupar los puestos. Asista a esta última reunión de la PTA del año para garantizar que tengamos suficientes miembros para elegir nuestra próxima Junta Ejecutiva de la PTA.
