Dear Vargas Families,

Our Scholastic Book Fair was a success, and it's all thanks to you! We're so grateful to everyone who shopped and, of course, to our incredible volunteers (and especially the Book Fair Team– Kristin, Brittany, Kevin, and Christine!) who made it all happen.

Next, get ready for our annual Walk-a-thon on October 3. We're counting on your continued support—keep those pledges coming in and cheer on our Golden Owls as they rack up the laps!

Walkathon is Coming October 3!

Mark your calendars—our Vargas Walk-a-thon is coming up on Friday, October 3, from 3–6pm! This is our biggest PTA fundraiser of the year, helping to provide beloved programs and events like Playworks, Science & Coding Night, field trips, assemblies, International Festival, Spring Break STEM Kits, and more. Our goal is to raise $35,000 to fund our programs– we can do it! It’s also a super fun afternoon for students and families!

How to participate (3 quick steps):

• Start collecting pledges and donations:

• Add your student to 99 Pledges - you can optionally set up a video message for them to send to friends and family

• Have your child ask friends, family, and members of their community to support them - every little bit helps! As an alternative to online donations, we’ll also be sending home a paper collection form and collection baggie to help collect cash or check donations. Cash/check donations can be dropped off at the office.

• Sign the forms required to participate: Complete online form here or complete and return the paper ones that will be sent home in Friday Folders

• We only have waivers for ~150 students so far!

• WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Sign up to volunteer on Konstella on the day of Walk-a-thon - it’s a great way to get to know the Vargas community!

• There are still 40+ available spots. We need you!

• Older siblings, family members, and friends are welcome to sign-up! 

• We are also looking for volunteers to help the day before (Thursday 10/2). If you are available, please email fundraising@javargaspta.org.

Prizes!
Students can earn individual prizes for donations, and classes can win classroom rewards based on participation and fundraising—so every registration and pledge boosts your class!

Invitation to Vargas Math Club

We would like to invite your 3rd, 4th, or 5th-grade student to become a part of the Vargas Math Club. If your child has a passion for mathematics and enjoys problem-solving and puzzles, they are sure to find our club both enjoyable and rewarding.

At the Vargas Math Club, we will be preparing and competing in the Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS), a fantastic opportunity to challenge and enhance mathematical skills. To learn more about this competition, please visit the official website here.

Our club sessions will take place after school until 4:00 PM every Tuesday, commencing on October 7th.

If your child is eager to be part of our Math Club, we kindly request you to complete the registration form no later than October 2nd.

To support the activities of the Math Club, we are suggesting a one-time donation of $25. There is no additional fee. This contribution will help cover expenses such as the MOEMS registration fee, necessary materials, and a delightful pizza party at the end of the club term.

¡El Walk-a-thon es el 3 de Octubre!

¡Marquen sus calendarios! Nuestro Walk-a-thon de Vargas será el viernes 3 de octubre, de 3 a 6pm. Este es uno de los eventos de recaudación de fondos más importantes de la PTA, que ayuda a ofrecer programas y actividades como la Noche de Programación, excursiones, asambleas, el Festival Internacional, kits de STEM para las vacaciones de primavera, ¡y mucho más! También es una tarde muy divertida para estudiantes y familias.

Cómo participar (3 pasos sencillos):

1. Registre la página de su estudiante y comience a recolectar donaciones de familiares y amigos:

Invitación al club de matemáticas de Vargas

Nos complace extender una invitación a su estudiante de 3º, 4º o 5º grado para que forme parte del Club de Matemáticas Vargas. Si su hijo tiene pasión por las matemáticas, disfruta resolviendo problemas y se entusiasma con los rompecabezas, seguro encontrará nuestro club tanto divertido como gratificante.

En el Club de Matemáticas Vargas, nos prepararemos y competiremos en las Olimpiadas Matemáticas para Escuelas Primarias y Secundarias (MOEMS), una fantástica oportunidad para desafiar y mejorar habilidades matemáticas.
