Summer Family Garden Helpers Needed
Wed, Jun 11 8:34pm

Dear JP Community,

The JP garden needs summer helpers each week during June thru August to keep our plants watered and thriving! Please see the and choose a week that you will be available to help. Our wonderful garden educator, Ms. Gries, will contact you the weekend before your scheduled week to arrange a morning to work together. Ms. Gries is happily expanding this program this year to allow for more families to enjoy the summer garden - please sign up for one slot so we can accommodate as many families as possible.

Garden helpers are encouraged to harvest and enjoy whatever is ready in the garden that week to eat!

Note from Ms. Gries about what to expect:
I will email you the Saturday before your week starts when I get a good look at the week's weather forecast. I prefer to be in the garden EARLY - around 7:30-10:30 a.m. I know it's early but it just gets so hot so I like to beat the heat. You are not obligated to be there for all 3 hours. Also, if there is a conflict and you can't make it during the 2 or 3 morning options I give you, I understand. Just let me know and I will give you some easy tasks to complete and let you also know what veggies are available for you to harvest and enjoy.

If something comes up and you can't make it during your week, just let me know. This year we will be asking for 2 families at the beginning of the week and 2 families mid/late week.

Please bring your kids if you'd like and a friend or 2 is welcome to join them as well. I would love to see them.

*This spring Johnson Park added 13 new turtles to the turtle garden while their home is being worked on at PHS. We are asking the families who sign up for the late week (Thursday) slots to bring a pint of berries or any veggie scraps from home to help feed the turtles during the summer months. Instructions will be posted on the door to the turtle garden - just remember that they are wild animals and we want to respect them by not touching or picking them up.

The foods can be slightly moldy or spoiled—turtles won’t care.

Uncooked:

Strawberries

Grapes

Carrot

Any berry

Carrots

Any melon

Bananas

Pumpkins

Any type of Squash

Cooked:

Cooked rice without any seasoning

Hard-boiled eggs in the shell still on but slightly crushed
