Hello Kaiser Elementary Families:

As of now, there is no official word about whether school will be back in session after Spring Break.   This decision will likely be guided by state or national level decision makers and not individual school districts.   We are hoping that we see you soon, yet teachers and I are planning for this to be a longer shelter-in-place. Either way, I will keep you in the loop as soon as I hear anything.

The district announced a protocol this morning for Chromebook distribution after Spring Break.  Last week Kaiser teachers identified families that may need this support. We are getting a head start on this by reaching out to families and have set up a pick-up time this Thursday (3/26), from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at school.  If you do not have technology to meet your child’s needs, and you could use a Chromebook, please come by school during this hour.  (There will also be additional days and times for Chromebook distribution after Spring Break that are consistent with all schools in OUSD.)   We will be disinfecting Chromebooks, asking everyone to keep 6 feet distance, and asking everyone to sign a technology agreement and receipt of Chromebook.

While this has been a challenging time, I’m finding daily joy in filming my daily Principal Guikema Shelter-in-Place videos.   Here’s today’s and a link to all previous family communication and student videos.   Enjoy.

I’ll touch base again tomorrow.
