Hello Kaiser Elementary Families:
As you know from my earlier message today, and messages from OUSD, Kaiser and other Bay Area schools will remain closed through May 1. We are scheduled to reopen Monday, May 4, but this, of course, is conditional, depending on the status of shelter-in-place mandates.
District wide, there is a plan to distribute Chromebooks to families who need them when we return from Spring Break. Kaiser teachers and support staff have already identified families at Kaiser who need this support. Tomorrow, Thursday, March 25, Chomebooks will be available to families who need them at Kaiser Elementary. To ensure we have enough, we are only distributing one per family at this time. We will be disinfecting all Chromebooks and following social distancing protocols. We ask that all families respect 6 feet of distance from one another.
Teachers are frequently updating their folders, and we are regularly adding new content to our Kaiser Elementary Family Resource Page. There is a new tab for Mr. Gipson’s African American Male Achievement program with a video on sportsmanship uploaded this morning. Oscar has been hosting a virtual Spirit Week and is sharing pictures! And if you haven’t seen them already, there are great music and art videos and resources from our teachers. Again, all of this is at our Family Resource Page. I recommend bookmarking or starring this page.
Tomorrow (Thursday) is our last day before our Spring Break. March 31st is Cesar Chavez Day, and we are off Friday in honor of this holiday. There are a lot of rich learning resources that honor Cesar Chavez’ legacy and teach about the struggle of the United Farm Workers. [Here are resources from CA Dept of Ed, NEA, and PBS.]
During Spring Break, I will update you with any time sensitive news via Konstella and robo-calls, but I will break from my daily messages and videos for kids. I am encouraging classroom and enrichment teachers to unplug their technology and recharge their spirits during this time. We will all be back with daily support on Monday, April 6. During Spring Break, I will shift my primary focus to enrollment and planning for Sankofa United for 2020-21. Please feel free to reach out with any questions on input about this year or next.
I miss you!
