4/8/20 Principal Guikema message
Wed, Apr 8 3:51pm

Hello Kaiser Elementary Families:

It was good to see many of you today at our Chromebook distribution.   I appreciate everyone being so mindful of safety protocols. Special thanks to Tanika Brown for her leadership with this.   I recorded today’s video for Kaiser kids as we were setting up.   Here’s a link to all my past family messages and student videos.  (We will have another distribution this evening, Wednesday, 4/8/20, from 5 - 7 PM.)

I also want to remind you that there are some great videos that our music and art teachers have posted.   Check them out (or revisit them) from the links on our Family Resource Page.

As we plan for next year, one of the questions that has been top of mind for many Kaiser families is which Kaiser teachers will be coming to Sankofa United Elementary.  I want to recognize what a challenging decision this has been for Kaiser teachers. None of our staff want to see our Kaiser site close. This significant change was a crossroads for us all, and my message to staff has been that I would support them in any decision that they made, and that I would respect the time that it would take to come to this decision, along with the timeline in the teacher contract.

Out of respect for teacher requests, I am not naming which teachers will be at Sankofa United, but am happy to say that the majority of our classroom teachers are expected to be there.   Likewise, several Sankofa teachers are returning next year and are looking forward to being a part of our “blended family.” We will be hiring at least one teacher, and that position will be posted this week.   Please feel free to direct any candidates my way. I’m committed to building a team of outstanding educators who are deeply committed to every child and family.

In Monday’s message, I invited feedback on how distance learning is going for you and your family.  If you haven’t already, I hope you will share your input here.

Sending love and well wishes from my family to yours.
