Hello Kaiser Elementary Families.

Happy Earth Day! In Monday’s message, I shared some great Earth Day resources that I hope your family has been able to check out.

Today, I want to focus on wellness.  This experience has been hella hard on all of us. On my end, I have never been busier with the extra complexity of both planning for a merged school and serving current students and staff in the era of COVID-19. It certainly isn’t easy balancing my work day with my wife’s work with our care for our 2 year old. These are my challenges, and I know each of you has significant challenges as well. Many in our community are struggling with significantly more, including food and housing insecurity. I remain committed to prioritizing my support for families with these most urgent needs and welcome you to reach out. Here is a list of critical resources.

In the spirit of caring for the socio-emotional needs of ourselves and our children, Kaiser’s “SEL Lead”, Kerry Linetzky, has compiled an excellent list of resources, both for adults and for kids.   I highly encourage you to check it out here.  This is also linked on our Kaiser Family Resource page.

This week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week.  I want to give a special shoutout to our PTA President Sarah Isaacs, and our whole PTA Board, who have provided strong leadership throughout the year and in this challenging time of COVID-19 are leading the way with creative initiatives to keep us connected.  A deep appreciation goes out to all of you who have volunteered in a myriad of ways throughout the years at Kaiser!

I also want to call your attention to an up-dated OUSD list of Oakland free or low cost internet options.   For those who have technology to donate, there is a great need and an opportunity to do this tomorrow at the tech donation drop off at Tech Exchange.

Today’s Principal Shelter in Place video was shot on the Kaiser campus and includes a shout out to a Kaiser student who reached out to me.  You can find it here.   On Monday I started a special project:  I have reached out to friends all over the world to record a video just for Kaiser students!   Today’s message is from my friend Raphael Figuiera in Trinidad & Tobago.   A link to all past Konstella messages, principal videos, and international videos is here.

Wishing you and your family all the best.
