Below is a transcript of the robo call just sent...

Hello Kaiser Elementary Community.

This is your principal, Dennis Guikema, with an urgent notice.   Oakland Unified School District has announced that due to poor air quality, all schools, including Kaiser Elementary, will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 16.  This includes Adventure Time and enrichment programs.

Today, the area around Kaiser experienced even worse air quality than most of Oakland.   I appreciate the input from family members and staff that we received today. I lifted this up to district leadership, and it was heard.

Our hearts go out to those most impacted by the Camp Fire and other fires across the state.  Thanks to all families who are donating funds or resources to those in need. I also want to recognize the hardship that unexpected school closure will cause for many of our Kaiser families.

As we head into the Thanksgiving week, I want to say how grateful I am to all in our Kaiser community for all you do to make our school a special place.   Even through the hardship of the past week, the strength and love of our community remained strong.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Greetings OUSD Students, Families and Staff,

We are announcing now that we are CANCELLING school for tomorrow, Friday, November 16.

The air quality across the Bay Area because of the wildfires has become worse, especially around some schools. After consulting with public health experts, we have determined the best course of action is to close schools and central office on Friday. This means there is no school tomorrow, and staff is instructed that the offices are also closed.

Principals, please work with your custodial staff to secure your schools for next week’s holiday break. If you have a meeting or special event planned at school tomorrow, please work with your principal to reschedule.

One important note: the School Site Council Summit WILL continue as scheduled at La Escuelita School at 1050 Second Avenue at 5:00 p.m. tonight.

If you have any questions, please consult your principal or your manager.

Thank you.

John Sasaki
