Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Parent Night January 16:
Being a teenager in today’s society is a very challenging experience. Teenagers have increased access to social media, peer pressure, strain of trying to fit in and pressure to perform academically. All of these added tensions can negatively impact your child.
SVUSD would like to provide you with information on how to support your child’s mental health needs and bring awareness regarding depression and suicide prevention.
SVUSD has piloted the SOS (Signs of Suicide) program for all intermediate students during the 2017-2018 school year. During the SOS presentation students learn how to:
- identify warning signs of depression and/or suicidal thoughts and behavior
- how to respond appropriately to a peer in need
- the process of telling a trusted adult on campus.
At La Paz, 7th Graders have already attended the program and 8th Graders will attend in the spring.
SVUSD, in conjunction with Didi Hirsch, will be providing parent education on mental health awareness and suicide prevention at RSM Intermediate School Theater, Jan. 16th, 2017 from 5:30-6:30 pm.
Parents are invited to attend this meeting to gain some great information and insight regarding this important topic and to learn more about the suicide prevention curriculum being presented to students in our district. We look forward to seeing you there!
