⭐🐬 Dolphin Digest - August 25, 2024 🐬⭐ Donut Dash, Giants Tickets, and More!
Sun, Aug 25 8:35pm

Dear Lafayette Community,

Welcome to our second week of school! It's been so much fun to see everyone. And we at the PTA are off to a running start this year as we announce some exciting community events coming up in September!

Let's get right into the fun stuff after some important reminders.

🚨🚨 For Drivers in the morning, please remember... 🚨🚨

  • No U-turns once you are in the line for Stop, Drop and Go.
  • Have your children wait for a volunteer to open your car door.
  • Do not double park blocking the line on Anza or 37th. This leads to traffic congestion and unsafe driving.  Please just wait in the line or find parking to walk your child in.
  • Please share this with other family members who might be bringing your children to school.

And one more important schoolwide reminder:

⛔🥜 Lafayette is a nut-free school. 🥜⛔

🍩 Register NOW for the Donut Dash - September 29th!

We're excited to announce this year's beloved Lafayette community event, the Donut Dash, is just around the corner. This is a 5K and 1 mile run in Golden Gate Park. It's also a fundraiser for our school. It will take place on Sunday, September 29th - the 5K starts at 8:30 am and the 1 mile starts at 9:15 am. All runners will be rewarded with a customized donut (or allergy-friendly alternative such as a Rice Krispie Treat).

To Register:
Online registration is open NOW and will close the evening of September 23rd. Paper registration forms will be sent home this week. You can also access them here. If you choose to use the paper registration forms, please return those to your teacher by September 20th, otherwise you can sign-up online by visiting this website: https://runtheday.com/register/detail/donut-dash-2024.

To Fundraise:

This is also an optional fundraiser. To fundraise, you can create a fundraising page here: https://givebutter.com/donutdash2024. Click "Make Your Page" and follow the prompts. It's pretty easy, but if you get stuck, find instructions on how to set up your page here (scroll down to Fundraising). Or, you can collect funds manually using this form.

We will give an award to the top fundraiser and the top runners (so start training!). Tee shirts will be available to participants on a first come, first served basis and there are no size guarantees. As always, fundraising is optional but needed and appreciated.

🚗 LAST WEEK for Stop, Drop and Go Open Rotation VOLUNTEERS!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered for open volunteer rotation for Stop, Drop and Go last week. We have one more week of open rotation to go, and then class rotations will begin the third week of school, starting with second grade classes (Ms. Rolph-Morales's class).

If you are new to the school, open rotation is a great way to gain experience on what volunteering entails, so you'll be prepared for when it's your class's turn. The shift runs 7:25am-8:00am.

This week, Tuesday and Thursday especially need help. Can you sign up?

For those not familiar, Stop, Drop and Go is our morning vehicle drop off program that runs along Anza between 36th and 37th. SDG is organized through the PTA and only works if parents volunteer for shifts! It's really a lovely way to start the day welcoming kids to school. SDG also helps us to be good neighbors during morning drop off and keeps kids safe during what can be a hectic time.

If you have any questions, please reach out to lafayettevolunteers@gmail.com or message Emily Bonelli-Padow (Stop, Drop and Go chair) through Konstella.

Big thanks to Ms. Emily for getting this deal set up for us!

☑️ Afterschool Enrichment Signup Open thru Labor Day

A reminder: We have a fantastic selection of afterschool enrichment activities this Fall! Registration is NOW through Labor Day.

Register on Homeroom for all activities except for Mandarin (register on the Qiao Ji Mandarin website).

As always, you can find all of our aftercare and enrichment info here on the Lafayette Dolphins website.

How do I register? – Register online on Homeroom. You will need to set up an account if it’s your first time registering. The only class that is not on Homeroom is Mandarin. Go directly to the Qiao Ji Mandarin website to sign up.

When do classes start? – Most classes start the week of September 3rd, with a few starting the following week. They run until December 19th with one week off for Parent Teacher conferences.

How do I find out the details about the different programs? – Go to Homeroom.com for all the info. Days, times, and descriptions of each program can be found there.

Where do the classes take place? Almost all classes take place at Lafayette and your child’s teacher or after care provider (YMCA or RNC) will make sure they get to the correct place at the right time. Art and biking will take place off campus, and the providers will meet the students at Lafayette.

How does my child get to and from the class? The school will handle everything! For drop off, your child’s teacher will make sure they get to the correct location on time. For pick up, if your child is in an after school program (YMCA or RNC), they will meet your child after the class. If your child is being picked up to go home right after class, the teacher of the enrichment program will let you know where to meet your child when class is over.
