As the end of the school year fast approaches (WHAT??) our current PTA Treasurer, Will Chinn, will be ending his two-year tenure as Lafayette's PTA Treasurer. Will is truly One Of The Greats(TM); but we are excited to connect with folks who are interested in being the PTA's next Treasurer.
Could it be you??
As Treasurer, you will:
- Assist in developing a Budget
- Manage funds
- Submit budget report at pta meetings
- Deposit money in the pta account
- Pay all bills
- Keep records of all transactions
- Laugh at my jokes during Board meetings (even if you don't mean it but please mean it)
Please note: being a PTA Board member is a two-year commitment
If you are organized, reliable, good with numbers, love spreadsheets (what's not to love??) and would enjoy working on the PTA Board with our amazing team, let me know! I'm happy to connect you with the right people to get more information / insight into the role.

Sunday April 19, 2026 | Noon-5:00PM
Get ready for the Read-a-thon with a slate of new books from the annual Book Swap!
- Fill out this form by the end of the day Friday, April 17 to be added to the swap address list and map.
- Go through your family’s books to find ones you’d like to leave out for others to take.
- Plan how to decorate your entryway and/or box of books with lots of Lafayette spirit:
- Chalk drawings leading up the sidewalk to your box of books
- Creative window, front door, or garage signage (think dolphin drawings… lots of dolphin drawings)
- A fun flag or other marker in or on your box
- Keep an eye out for the swap address list & map in your email Saturday, April 18.
- On Sunday, April 19, decorate and fill your box and set it out by noon.
- Call up the email with the address list and map, grab a tote bag, put on your walking shoes (or your bike helmet), and head out to find new books! Hopefully you’ll see friends along the way.
The swap should wrap up by 5 pm so we can put our book boxes away before dark. The earliest bookworm gets the best books!

The Annual Read-a-Thon is fast approaching here’s everything you need to know!
What: A week-long celebration of reading with prizes for the kids and classes that read the most! Being read to counts so all ages can participate.
When: Tuesday, April 21 through Monday, April 27
How do I participate? Your student will receive a packet in their folder the week of April 13. All students who return their packet with their name and class number will receive a participation prize, regardless of the number of minutes read.
Fundraising: You can get a head start on fundraising by setting up your child’s page at https://givebutter.com/lafayette-read-a-thon-2026. However, we will also accept donations through cash, check, or paypal.
What counts: All reading counts! Whether you read to your student or they read on their own, every minute they spend with a book, graphic novel, or anything else with words counts!
Visiting Author: After the read-a-thon, we’ll celebrate with an assembly from our guest author, San Francisco’s own Emma Bland Smith, on Friday, May 15th, 2026.
The prizes:
Everyone who participates: A blue color-changing Lafayette pencil
The top readers and fundraisers from each grade TK-5:
- Signed copy of Claude
- Claude stuffie from the Academy of Sciences
- Read-a-thon winner t-shirt
- Lunch with the author Emma Bland Smith (for grades 3-5)
- A class party for the classrooms with the highest total participation (TK-1, 2-3, 4-5).
If you have any questions at any time, please reach out to to LafayetteReads@gmail.com or find one of us in the yard in the morning (Justin Haywald and Allie Summers)!
