🧘 MONDAY DEADLINE After School Enrichment Programs 🎨

Sign up for after school enrichment classes by tomorrow, September 7th on Lafayette's Homeroom website.

There are also two new offerings:
• A girls running club (grades 3-5), as well as an opportunity for parents to volunteer to coach the run club. More information is available here and here.
• Fencing! SFE Fencing Club teaches saber, foil, and épée, with age-appropriate programming centered around fencing fundamentals, athletic development, coordination, confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship. They are located around the corner from Lafayette and their teachers will pick up your child at the end of the school day, take them to their fencing club and then drop them back off at Lafayette at the end of the class. It's offered every day of the week! 




🥟 Lafayette Multicultural Night Market is on Sep. 23 - What dish will you bring? 🥟

It's the 3rd Annual Lafayette Multicultural Night Market! This is a free event where volunteers bring dishes from around the world, and we celebrate outside with fun activities and lots of community spirit (100% of classes represented). 

When: September 23, 2026 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Please sign up to bring dishes and/or volunteer by Wednesday, September 16. This is a free event, but it does not happen without you! We need potluck dishes and event volunteers — from setup and cleanup to food service and activities. I know we can meet (and beat) this year’s goal of 75 dishes and 6 activity tables.

This is a family affair! Feel free to bring grandparents into the mix, and if you’ve got a middle schooler or high schooler, this is a great way for them to get those volunteer hours.

What's new? In response to your requests, we're offering more zip up hoodies and new long sleeve shirts! All orders will be screenprinted locally in one big batch in October and delivered directly to classrooms in early November.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Back-to-School Night events last week! We hope your time in the classroom gave you a helpful glimpse into your child’s day-to-day learning experience. We always appreciate opportunities to bring our community together, and we’re grateful you spent your evening with us.

If you were unable to attend and have not received your teacher’s presentation or resources, please reach out to them directly.

A few quick reminders shared at Back-to-School Night:

General Reminders:

• In the morning, use Stop, Drop, and Go on Anza Street for a safe and efficient morning drop-off. Please do not park or drop-off in the white bus zone, double park, or allow students to exit on the opposite side of the street. This is for the safety of your students!

• After school, our play structure is reserved for YMCA and RNC programs. Because these programs lease our facilities after the school day, students who are not enrolled should not use the play structure after dismissal for liability reasons. We’ve heard that this hasn’t been communicated in the past, but for the safety and security of our students in aftercare, we ask you to find alternate afternoon play areas. Cabrillo Playground, just down the street, is a great alternative! Thanks for your understanding.

• Please walk bikes and scooters while on the school yard to help keep everyone safe.

• Reporting Full-Day Absences: Whenever possible, please report absences through your ParentVUE account.

Behavior Expectations

This past week, Ms. Yin and I visited all of our 3rd–5th grade classrooms to review schoolwide behavior expectations. We focused on what it looks like to be safe, respectful, and responsible across campus, including expectations for yard play, strategies for solving problems, and how to seek adult support when challenges arise. This week, we’ll continue this work with our TK–2 students. Our goal is to build consistent expectations and shared language across our entire school, helping foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for every student.

Upcoming Assessments & Screenings

Throughout September, our Kindergarten teachers will administer the Kindergarten Readiness Inventory (KRI). This brief assessment helps teachers understand each student’s early skills and strengths so they can plan instruction and support. The KRI takes place during the regular school day and requires no preparation at home.

Initial ELPAC testing will take place September 15–17 for newly identified multilingual learners. Students will be pulled from class briefly to complete this assessment, which helps us understand their current English language proficiency and plan appropriate English Language Development supports.

Hearing and vision screenings for Kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grade students (as well as students referred by teachers) will take place on September 28.

Dental Screenings for TK and Kinder classes will take place on Friday, October 2nd. Students will bring home consent forms within the next few weeks. TK students must submit an active consent form to be screened and/or then receive fluoride varnish, all done the same day. Kindergarten students will receive a passive consent form. Parents or legal guardians must provide in writing if they choose to opt out, otherwise we will be screening that student.

Learning Opportunities for Families

Registration is now open for the 9th cohort of Advocating for Your Black Child (A4YBC), a free 8-week online series for Black parents and caregivers of Black children and youth (elementary through high school).

This culturally responsive, trauma-informed program helps families support their children’s behavioral, mental health, and learning needs while navigating school and other systems. Program Details

• Dates: September 23 – November 18, 2026

• Wednesdays: 6:00–8:00 PM

• Format: Free, online

Don’t forget that After-School Enrichments begin this week! Visit Homeroom to view specific start dates and current offerings.

Enrichment Pick-Up: Please meet your student on time at the northeast gate on 36th Avenue, near the bike racks.

Field Trip Chaperone Update (New Requirements!)

SFUSD has updated its field trip chaperone requirements to support student safety. 

Review the full requirements her.

Parent/guardian chaperones must now complete:

1. Megan’s Law clearance

2. Mandated Reporter Training (approximately 55 minutes total)

Non-parent/guardian chaperones must also complete an SFUSD LiveScan background check before the trip.

All requirements must be completed before chaperoning a field trip.

Lost & Found

• Next time you’re on campus, swing by the lost and found near the auditorium to see if you recognize any of your student’s belongings. Don’t forget to label EVERYTHING.
