Context: UESF (the educator union) and SFUSD have been negotiating since March 2025, and bargaining has been unsuccessful. Currently they are in the stage of fact-finding which ends February 4th. After fact-finding ends, the union has the legal authority to strike.
What is the union asking for?
District financials: The district is claiming they have no money for these asks. Yet just last month the district rolled surplus funds into savings, moving $110 million into reserves. This is 33% more than required by the state. They also attempted to give a 13% raise to unrepresented administrators at the highest levels of central offices, but this was rejected by the Board of Education. This and many more actions indicate they are misrepresenting their financial situation.
Happening this week: UESF educators will vote on a strike between January 21st - 28th.
If the educators vote YES, a strike can happen in February, date TBD. We will schedule a Lafayette Community meeting for all families to learn about strike logistics if a date is set for a strike.

Family STEAM Day: Volunteers Needed!
|
Join us at Lafayette on Wednesday, January 21st at 1:15 for an afternoon of fun and interactive activities involving Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math!
The school day will end at the typical Wednesday time: 12:50pm.
Students who are not in after-school programs must be picked up as usual at 12:50pm, and families are invited to attend the event with their students. Until the event starts, you are welcome to spend time in the schoolyard (grownups are responsible for supervising their kids).
Students in after-school programs will also have the opportunity to attend the event with their program staff.
Volunteer at Family STEAM Day
Grown-ups are needed to VOLUNTEER as "explainers" at the stations. This is a fun volunteer gig where you get to help kids interact with the activity at your station. No special skills required! Each kit comes with explicit directions and materials.
We also need help with set-up on Tuesday, January 20th after school (2:15-3:15) and for clean-up after the event (3:00-4:00). Please sign up right here.
Questions? Please contact Ms. Young (gonzalesl@sfusd.edu), Kindergarten Teacher and part of STEAM Family DAY committee
