Hi everyone,

Happy week of Halloween. Some key things I want to highlight for the week:

(1) We still need volunteers to help with Friday's Halloween festivities. If you are able to, please check Konstella to sign up.

(2) Though Mayor Lurie announced this past week that federal troops will not be deployed to San Francisco, we still want to ensure that our community is informed and prepared to support our students and their families when and if the need arises. While SFUSD has shared its policies and resources on its website, PTA President Meghan Butler will be sending out details this week about what we will be doing at Lafayette specifically. This includes a call for volunteers to help with things like grocery deliveries and escorting kids to and from school. Keep an eye out for her message and please let us know if you can help. ❤️

(3) Lastly, a HUGE thank you to Mariela Pauli and Priscilla Lindsey for organizing the fantastic Autumn Carnival yesterday. What a fantastic event to kick off the Halloween week and so much gratitude to all of the volunteers that made the event possible.

The Richmond Neighborhood Center has asked Lafayette to have a float at the next Lunar New Year parade. We need a parent or two to lead the float! If you'd like to volunteer, reply to this newsletter and let me know ❤️ 🐉

This year's production is WEST SIDE STORY and performances are April 15, 16, and 17th, 2026.

If your child would like to participate in this year's musical, please fill out this form.

Auditions are MANDATORY for students in 2nd grade and above who wish to participate.

Signing up via this form is MANDATORY for Kindergarten and 1st grade students who wish to participate, but they do not need to audition.

Audition schedule: Times and locations have been updated since last week. 

• 4th and 5th Grade - Monday November 10, 2:05 - 4 pm. (@ Auditorium) 
• 2nd and 3rd Grade - Wednesday November 12, 12:50 - 3 pm. (@ Music Room)
• Call backs (if needed) - Friday November 14, 2:05 - 4 pm. (@ TBD)

Roles will be posted on Friday, November 21 after school on the door of the Auditorium.

To audition, each student must prepare a 30-second, a capella song for our team of directors. If they are interested in a particular role, their song choice should reflect that. This year's show will feature lots of dancing, so we are asking those interested to also perform the first 35 seconds or so of this choreography (at slow tempo is fine!).

After their audition, students will be brought back to their after school program, if applicable, or released to parents. The book fair and teacher conferences will also be taking place on those afternoons.

Lafayette parent Cristina Manzanares helps manage a FREE weekly community rescue pantry called “Pantry 38.” Their mission: to rescue perfectly good food from across the food groups and redistribute to our Richmond District neighborhood all while strengthening and building our community connections one family at a time. The pantry is held 1-3x per week in the outer Richmond and open to all residents living in The Richmond District.

We also have a great supplemental food pantry program through The Richmond Neighborhood Center located on 30th and Balboa. It’s simple to sign up as you just need to be a resident of The Richmond District.

They open the pantry 4 days a week at set locations in the Richmond District and encourage households to sign up by stopping by their pantry distribution location right here at Lafayette Elementary School by our shed in the yard from 3:45pm-4:45pm. When you arrive, ask for Mary who is the director of the pantry program. Mary and her team are the sweetest and will take good care of you.
