Thank you to everyone for a wild and wonderful Read-a-thon!
We announced the winners at school on Wednesday, but in case you missed it, here are our top reading and fundraising students:
|
All of our winning students this year received a Black Bird Bookstore tote bag and bookmark (generously donated by Black Bird), a signed copy of Claude by Emma Bland Smith, and a Lafayette Reads "Winner" t-shirt!
Our classrooms with the highest number of participating students (and who earned a class party) are:
Highest Class Participation Winners:
Centeno - 3rd grade (100%) Lenahan - DHH (100%) Chue - 1st grade (90.9%) Brook - 4th grade (87.5%)
And the winner of this year's XL Claude stuffie raffle prize was 5th grader Maddy Bleiman!
Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $33,000, which goes directly toward supporting our teachers and school programs. And our students this year read an amazing 2,760 hours--that's a 63% increase over the amount read last year! Congratulations to all our students, and a big thank you to the parents and teachers who help feed that passion for books!
On Friday we hosted a school assembly with guest author Emma Bland Smith, as well as a special lunch for our top winners in grades 3-5. Emma read some of her most popular books, and also taught our students about what goes into creating narrative nonfiction. We hope she inspired a few future writers, and you can see photos from the event here.
An extra special thanks to Black Bird Books in the outer Sunset for their generous support during this year's event.
And finally, a big thank you to read-a-thon co-chair Allie Summers! Sadly, this is her student's final year at Lafayette, and her invaluable leadership made it all come together! We'll miss her!
If you love reading, books, and would like to join the read-a-thon team next year, email LafayetteReads@gmail.com. Any help, big or small is appreciated!
We'll see you next year! Keep reading! |
The Lafayette Social Committee wants to host a waffle breakfast for teachers the week of June 1st. To do this, we need to borrow some large waffle irons (hopefully 3-5). If you have one you can loan, please bring them to Ms. Carpenter's classroom by June 2nd. She will return them June 5th (8th at the latest).

We need your help gathering photos for this year's yearbook! If you have chaperoned field trips or attended events with students, we'd love you to upload photos to the relevant event or classroom folder on Google Drive here.
You can also pre-order your yearbook(s) today! This year the books will ship directly to your house, and if you order by June 16th will include two free custom pages. In order to include events up until the end of the year, the books will not be completed until after the school year ends, but will be delivered by the end of July.
Purchase your yearbook here Passcode: 1015718683474794
ATTENTION 5TH GRADE FAMILIES:
5th grade parents are also given the option to purchase "Recognition Ads" for their child which will print in every single yearbook (custom pages only print in individual books).
In order to include events up until the end of the year (like class promotion), the books will not be completed until after the school year ends, but will be delivered by the end of July.
