🚨 Emergency Budget Response: Don't Miss the PTA Meeting - February 12th @ 6pm

Last week, we asked you to save the date for this month's PTA meeting because this is the time for us as a community to learn about the budget cuts coming for next school year, and to talk about what matters to us. Let's come together!

PTA Meeting

Wednesday, February 12th at 6pm

Lafayette Auditorium

Childcare provided until 7pm by the YMCA. And we'll have snacks and drinks!

In order to be eligible to vote on our motions you must be a paid member of the PTA for a minimum of 30 days. The cost is $10 per member and anyone can join (parents, students, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). Be sure to join the PTA today!

📚 Book Donations Needed for 2nd/3rd Grade

Some classrooms are seeking book donations for 2nd and 3rd grade! Chapter books and graphic novels preferred. Parents or kids can bring books to Room 110, Ms. Scully's classroom. Thank you!

📖 Read-a-thon Reading Logs & Donations Due Friday, March 14th

Time's up to log Read-a-thon minutes! (Unless your child is still up reading. We have mixed feelings...)

  • ALL participants get a special prize: blue Read-a-thon slime!
  • Top participating classes also get an additional prize!
  • Individuals with the most minutes or most funds raised get the blue slime PLUS a book signed by our visiting author, Oliver Chin! (Top readers and raisers in Grades 3–5 will also have a special group meeting with snacks or lunch with Oliver.)

💓 School Social Work March Newsletter

Our school social worker, Emily Newman, shared her March newsletter. This month, she's highlighting Women's History Month and a fun upcoming event: a Giants game Dolphins won't want to miss on May 4th. Read Emily's March School Social Work Newsletter here! (English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Hindi)

📷 Lately at Lafayette (photos)

Lafayette's African American Honor Roll ceremony last Tuesday was a fun and meaningful evening. As Emily mentions in her School Social Work Newsletter, George McCalman gave a fascinating talk about his approach and process for creating his book, Illustrated Black History. Each of our honorees received a certificate of achievement and a signed copy of the book.

Chloe Jackman Photography captured beautiful portraits of the honorees and their families! (Link to these photos plus portraits of some attendees here.)

Each of the portraits of 145 Black pioneers in Illustrated Black History is done in a different style, an incredible undertaking. George told the audience that whatever your race, "This history is YOUR history."

Thank you always and forever to our wonderful Stop, Drop and Go volunteers. And to the great majority of drivers who follow the rules and keep our kids and volunteers safe!

Graduation Lei Source, Recommended by a Lafayette Family

We have our first recommendation for ways to celebrate our 5th graders as they complete elementary school! A Lafayette family recommended Briana Louie for custom "graduation leis." Order here or use the above QR code from Briana's flyer.

As we mentioned previously: The families of 5th graders will soon be looking for ways to celebrate as their kids complete the final year of elementary school. 😢 Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for how to celebrate them? Graduation lei sources, sweet traditions, etc? We're happy to share them in the Dolphin Digest, so bring it on!

Thanks for reading this week.

Go Dolphins! 🐬
