Hi Lafayette families,
It has recently come to the PTA's attention that the District has been negligent in fixing the elevator at Lafayette. Because of this, two students who currently use wheelchairs cannot come to school. Additionally, last Fall, two students were trapped inside the elevator for over 30 minutes when it broke down with both children inside.
We would appreciate your help making some noise at the district level (as well as to Connie Chan's office) to have this addressed immediately. Feel free to use my template or write your own (see below).
Every child deserves an education and no student should be prevented from learning because the facilities do not accommodate their needs.
Thank you in advance,
Courtney

Subject: URGENT: Immediate Repair Required for Inoperable School Elevator
Dear Superintendent Su,
I am a parent at Lafayette Elementary in the Outer Richmond. The elevator at our school is currently inoperable and has been for months. The district's failure to resolve this issue is preventing our students who use mobility aides from accessing the building and attending school. Additionally, in the Fall of last year, two of our students were stuck inside the elevator for over 30 minutes when the elevator broke down. This is an urgent accessibility issue that denies students equal access to their education.
Please provide an immediate repair timeline and a temporary plan to ensure affected students can attend school without disruption.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
