Dear Lafayette Families,

With the news that a teachers strike is likely to start on Monday, February 9th, we know that our community is facing uncertainty and challenges for many in our school community and we recognize that families may be experiencing this moment very differently: some may be facing unexpected childcare needs or financial strain, while others are looking for ways to support educators and fellow families. Wherever you find yourself, please know that you are not alone and we are in this together.

Our role as the PTA is to support all families and students during this time, and to help share resources where we can.

If your family needs support, the following resources may be helpful:

Community child support options (coordinated by Lafayette volunteers)

Working list of local food pantries

Sign up to request free breakfast and lunch (limit to one bag per day for each student)

Calendar of [free] events at the San Francisco Public Library, as well as their "Discover & Go" program which provides free and low cost passes to museums, science centers, zoos, theaters, and other cultural destinations (library card required).

If you need help navigating these resources or are experiencing hardship, you can always contact me confidentially at lafayettevolunteers@gmail.com. I will do my best to connect you with support.

If your family is able and would like to help
, there are also ways to support our community:

While after school enrichment programs are expected to pause during the strike, if your child is in the RNC or YMCA after school program, you will hear directly from those programs about how they plan to operate during the strike.

We will continue to share verified updates and resources as they become available. Thank you for your patience, compassion, and care for one another during this challenging time.

In community,

Meghan Butler
PTA President
