Teachers' Contract Update
Tue, Nov 11 9:26am

Hi everyone,

While the PTA stays neutral in labor disputes, we are committed to providing you with timely information regarding these important issues. As such, despite eight months of bargaining, the union contract between SFUSD and our teachers has expired.

Negotiations reached an impasse on October 6, 2025. Among the major issues of disagreement are workload concerns for special education teachers, salary increases, affordable housing and healthcare costs. On October 14, educators submitted more than 4,000 signatures to the Board of Education—representing over 75% of SFUSD teachers—indicating their readiness to strike as a last resort if a new labor agreement cannot be reached. Teachers plan to hold informational pickets at all school sites on Wednesday, November 12.

The Lafayette picket will be held on Wednesday, November 12, at approximately 3:10pm at 36th and Anza. It will not impact the school day. Families and students are welcome to join the picket and the march, and posters/signs are welcome.

You can find more information from the teachers' union here and information from the district here.
