Disaster Drill - Run Hide Defend
Wed, Sep 20 11:00am-12:00pm
Lincoln Elementary

Run Hide Defend (RHD) drill this Wednesday, September 20th. This is our drill where we practice how to prepare for an intruder on campus. The choices that staff have to make will depend on their locations, but they can choose to run, hide or defend as the drill suggests.

For this drill, the main thing we are teaching children is that if there is a danger on campus, we need to stay in our rooms and be quiet and out of sight. What we tell students:

  • The drill is called “Run, Hide, Defend”, because those are the three things you would do if an unsafe stranger (grades TK-3), and/or “shooter” (grades 4-5) was on campus.

  • We remind students in grades 4-5 to not discuss guns and shooting at school among younger students.

  • We emphasize to students that it’s very rare to have an “unsafe stranger” on campus, and it will probably never happen, but we still have to prepare for it.

For your information: if there was a disaster or an emergency, please do not call the school. The district will be sending out messages and we need to keep our lines open for communication with the proper authorities. When it is time to come and pick up your child, you will need photo identification and we will be checking the emergency card for who is allowed to pick up your child. Please make sure yours is up to date! If someone is not on the card, we will not be able to release your child to them.
