The Board of Education will hold a Special Board meeting tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. at Island High School Multipurpose Room (500 Pacific Avenue).
The topic is the "Budget Realignment Process”:
"The Board of Education has directed the staff to review budget priorities in light of the fact that, despite recent raises, AUSD employees are still among the lowest paid public school district employees in the Alameda County. Currently the District has a three-year positive budget, meaning that the District will be able to meet its financial obligations for the next three years. In order to achieve this three year positive budget, the District used one-time funds, made cuts at the District Office, and reduced spending on facility maintenance. In order to further increase employee salaries, the District would have to make further cuts and reprioritize the budget."
Below is the link to the agenda, and within the agenda is a link to the powerpoint presentation that will be discussed.
Please come join the conversation if you would like to voice concern about potential impacts on students, which (as noted below) could include fewer elective class options in secondary schools, reduction in student choice, an increase in combo classes in elementary, and an increase in diversions of students to other schools.
