Time Change Preparation -- Clocks Spring Forward this Sunday!
Wed, Mar 5 12:57pm

Hi Little Wonders Families! You still have plenty of time to help acclimate your toddler and older children for a smooth time-change transition.

Here’s what you need to know.

If your child’s bedtime is at a time that works for everyone, then…

  • Overall, try to keep your routine the same. Beginning 3 days in advance, start shifting bedtime earlier by 15-minute increments. This will ideally cause your child to wake up earlier and begin the natural shift. However, you also can start by waking your child 15 minutes earlier each day starting the next morning.
  • If bedtime is 7 pm, then by Saturday night you will have your L.O. down by 6:15 pm. This means Sunday night you can be back to a regular schedule of 7 pm.
  • To start putting a child to bed earlier, I suggest turning off electronics 1-2 before bedtime and dimming the lights about an hour before bedtime to naturally indicate it’s getting to be time for bed.

If your child's bedtime is too late, then do nothing. Once the time change happens your child will be going to bed an hour earlier. Enjoy!

In the days following the time change, remember that some children have a harder time adjusting than others. I encourage you to have empathy for these little people, extra snuggles go a long way too!

We hope it goes well for your family.
