Hi Peacemakers,

 

Today begins a whole weekend of celebrating Maplewood's 75th, and you're not going to want to miss any of it.

 

If that joy is coexisting with some more complicated feelings—or complicated questions—about the 25th anniversary of 9/11, take a look at this week's Land Line from Ms. Land, which includes resources for resetting yourself and talking to your kids about collective trauma.

 

Here's what's in store for you in the department of collective effervescence this weekend ⬇️

TODAY, 1PM

This just in: you are invited to the most exclusive event of the whole weekend: the pep rally at 1pm today. Wear blue and RSVP here.

 

 

TOMORROW, 10AM-1PM

The event of the season, at Maplewood. Come for the free coffee, lemonade, and snacks; stay to mingle with MW alumni and meander through 75 years of interactive Maplewood history.

NEW SITE, WHO 'DIS?

Thanks to the time and talents of Maplewood parents Chelsea Fullerton-Jones and Ronit Shaham, we have a brand new beautiful site. Take a look, and make sure to shower those two with gratitude.

 

 

HERE'S HOW WE'RE SPENDING YOUR MONEY

We've raised $21,000 since July 1 - that's 12% of our fundraising goal this year. 🎉

That allows us to fill three unfunded staff positions for the next 6 months:*

  • 2 content interventionists ← These are the educators who provided targeted, extra support to fill in gaps for students struggling in a particular content area. Their work is critical to maintaining our A rating and keeping TEA at bay.

  • 1 lunch support staff ← This is the most requested support we've heard from teachers for the last year, and allows our teachers to actually get a lunch break instead of having to do cafeteria duty.

 

* Did you know that, among other injustices, our funding has not been adjusted to account for inflation? That's just one of the reasons PTA is raising $180K this year - to fill in the cavernous holes in our budget left by state and district level funding gaps. Nobody wants this, but ... here we are, meeting the moment, again.

ASÍ ESTAMOS INVIRTIENDO SU DINERO

  • 2 especialistas en intervención de contenido ← Son los educadores que brindan apoyo adicional y específico para cerrar brechas en estudiantes con dificultades en alguna materia. Su trabajo es fundamental para mantener nuestra calificación A y mantener a raya a la TEA.

  • 1 asistente de apoyo en el comedor ← Este es el apoyo más solicitado por nuestros maestros durante el último año, y les permite realmente tomar su hora de almuerzo en lugar de tener que supervisar la cafetería.

    *¿Sabía que, entre otras injusticias, nuestro financiamiento no se ha ajustado por inflación? Esa es solo una de las razones por las que la PTA está recaudando $180,000 este año — para llenar los enormes vacíos que dejan las brechas de financiamiento estatal y distrital en nuestro presupuesto.
