Good morning and happy Halloween!

GRATITUDE & GOOD NEWS

👏 A HUGE thank you and round of applause to Rachel and the whole Fall Fest committee for throwing such an extraordinary event last week.

🥳 As of last night, we are only $1K away from meeting our $40K match goal for October. Y'all have been SHOWING UP. Today's the last day to donate; get your favorite bighearted, deadline-motivated aunties on it, please and thank you! Once the dust settles on this October matching campaign, we'll share the total raised toward our broader $180K goal (it's gonna be good news, y'all, just let us get accounts squared so we can be as accurate as possible).

🪴 Maplewood parent Katie Nikah secured a $5K garden grant from the Oliver Foundation, focused on teaching kids about healthy foods. (Did you know the garden glow up has been entirely funded by grants?!)

🐓 We scored a $1K credit to McCoy's Building Supplies for chicken coop building materials (keep reading below for when and why the chickens are coming to Maplewood)

🍲 We've earned $986 from our Favor orders so far (follow this link to have 25% of your Favor orders through November 30 kick back to Maplewood)

🥰 As predicted, the book character costume parade yesterday was cute.

♥️ Yesterday was Ms. Mary's last day at Maplewood. We are so grateful for her joyful energy and hard work, and will miss getting to see her every day!

STAFF APPRECIATION

💕 "Ms. Salazar always offers a hug or a beautiful compliment. She even baked me a cake for my birthday! Her kindness and happy energy always help me look at the brighter side of life and change my mood."

-Ms. Cervantes

WHY DID THE CHICKENS COME TO MAPLEWOOD?

Ms. Metcalf and Libby Chennell met with a teacher at Davis Elementary who shared that, among the many benefits of their school's chicken coop, is bringing kids out there when they're dysregulated. She said that 100% of the time, being near to or holding a chicken helps these kids regulate their big feelings. There's something about taking care of something more vulnerable than yourself that is so soothing for the kids.

April 2027 is our target ETA for our new, grant-funded chicken coops.

HELPFUL LINKS

Hi! I'm Alyse, and Halloween is my favorite holiday. My 5th grader and I spent last night practicing this creepy doll makeup for tonight's trick or treating. If you see us on the streets of Mueller, pull our string and we'll tell you ... 👻

¡Buenos días y feliz Halloween!

GRATITUD Y BUENAS NOTICIAS
