Reading Week is next week
Fri, Apr 9 2:29pm
The PTG is thrilled to bring back Reading Week (April 12-16). This year's "Reading Safari" will take Meadowbrook on a jungle themed adventure with daily activities, all focussed on exploring the fun and joy of reading.

While there is no prep to do at home, here is the schedule. Be sure to ask your child(ren) when they get home about it!

  • Safari Walk (Monday): Classes will head outside for a display of From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. Students will walk around and read the book, page by page, on large signage.
  • Safari Reading Time (Tuesday): Jungle sounds will play over the PA system to alert students to

“Drop Everything And Read”. Students receive a jungle animal bookmark.

  • Sight Word Day (Wednesday):

Students select their favorite sight word and write it on a provided name tag to wear. This becomes their “name” for the day!
  • Poem in Your Pocket (Thursday): Students have selected poems to put in a paper “pocket” they've made during library class. They will read these poems to classmates throughout the day. Thank you to our librarian, Mrs. Lynch, for working with all classes on this poetry piece.
  • Virtual Author Presentation (Friday): Eric Sturtevant, a local children’s author and illustrator, will host a virtual assembly to discuss his books Ducky Ducky Likes to Moo & Monster Monster Wants to Roar. To learn more, visit https://www.ericsturtevantbooks.com

Also, look for an email each day from Mr. Marcaccio that will have a pre-recorded Bedtime Story from a Meadowbrook Staff guest reader! Your child can view these at home as part of their nightly routine.

We have some other surprises in store for the week that we hope will add some joy and laughter to the school day too.

A big thanks to the Reading Week Committee of Ashley Bond, Christine Dembinski, Denise Desmarais, Kristen Strattman and Sarah Turshen. Working together with Mr. Marcaccio, Mrs. Lynch and Miss Jess, it's sure to be a great week!
