That's a wrap on a full and fun year at Meadowbrook!! Thank you to everyone in this community for your participation in so many activities throughout the school year. From volunteering in the classroom and at PTG events, to your generous contributions to our annual "Fun Run" fundraiser, collectively we were able to accomplish so much, including:

School enhancements – more than $30,000 invested this year

  • $11,000 distributed for classrooms enhancements ($500 stipend for each teacher and specialist)
  • $2,500 spent on classroom games and manipulatives for students to use during indoor wellness
  • $1,000 donated from Scholastic Book Fair proceeds to purchase new books and materials for the school library
  • $15,000 investment in new commercial playground equipment (“TopsyTurny Spinner” from Landscape Structures - equipment, installation and new mulch; excavation services were donated by Meadowbrook family and ProSeptic owners, Joe and Jess Procopio)
  • $2,500 to cover 50% of the cost of end-of-year field trips
  • $750 donation for the 2nd grade classes to create an outdoor pollinator garden
  • New landscaping at the front entrance
  • Enhancements to the side entrance with metal flowers and additional décor

Meadowbrook Community Events - dozens of parents volunteered their time throughout the year to bring all of the below events to life

  • Back to School picnic with Haven Brothers food truck (free event)
  • Kindergarten Meet Up before the first day of school (free event)
  • Color Run Annual Fundraiser (free for students to participate) - raised $24,000 to fund PTG initiatives throughout the year
  • Fall and spring family Bingo Nights (free event)
  • Fall and spring Scholastic book fair (grants provided to students with financial need)
  • Three 6-week before- and after-school enrichment programs throughout the year in art, sports and chess (scholarships provided to students with financial need)
  • Halloween Trunk or Treat (free event)
  • Holiday Shop (grants provided to students with financial need)
  • URI women’s basketball game & Providence Bruins Game (free tickets provided to families with financial need)
  • School dance at the Quonset O’Club (free tickets provided to families with financial need)
  • Reading Week and Cookies & Book(ie)s story time event (free event)
  • Art Night (free event)
  • Numerous spirit weeks
  • Holiday and year-end volunteer appreciation events
  • Provided support for numerous school-run events (Open House, Veterans Day concert, 100 Days of School celebration, 2nd grade Moving Up Ceremony, lunch room helpers, etc.)
  • 140 yearbooks produced and sold (free books provided to students with financial need)
  • 8 general PTG meetings held (open to the full community)

PBIS Program Support

  • Funded fall BMX assembly on kindness, goal-setting and perseverance
  • Funded spring Engineering Wonder STEM-infused magic show
  • Provided Meadowbrook-branded PBIS prizes for students to earn throughout the year (water bottles, pencils, key chains, bracelets, drawstring bags, stress balls)

Community Service

  • Halloween candy for Treats for Troops – 142 lbs 13.6 oz. donated (not a typo, we donated a full-grown human worth of candy!)
  • Thanksgiving food drive to benefit Meadowbrook families in need – 8 large baskets of food donated
  • Gift cards for fire victims – hundreds of dollars in gift cards donated
  • Toys for Tots drive – filled 7 EGPD cruisers with hundreds of donated toys
  • Soup(er) Bowl canned soup drive to benefit St. Luke’s Pantry in EG – 65 cans of soup donated
  • Valentine’s Day cards for residents at St. Elizabeth’s and Anchor Bay in EG – more than 100 cards gifted
  • Book drive to benefit RI nonprofit Books Are Wings – hundreds of books donated
  • Toiletry drive to benefit RI nonprofit Amenity Aid
  • Gift card and summer essentials drive to benefit Meadowbrook students – hundreds of dollars in gift cards donated 

Staff Appreciation

  • Monthly coffee carts
  • Quarterly catered lunches (Back to School luncheon, Souper Bowl soup luncheon, etc.)
  • Holiday cookie swap with hundreds of donated cookies from Meadowbrook families
  • Staff Appreciation Week – daily treats to thank all the teachers and staff 

We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated, caring teachers, staff and families who together make Meadowbrook the special school it is!! On behalf of all the PTG, thank you for all your contributions this year! We hope you have a wonderful summer!!
