Getting To Know

Kathy Mallison
Meyerholz Librarian

I have been the librarian at Meyerholz Elementary for 15 years.  Before becoming a librarian here, I was a chemist and then a mom.  I was inspired to become a librarian because I loved volunteering here and I love the students. My goal is to find books that students truly enjoy.

I learned many things here at Meyerholz but you can take classes and get a degree in library science at college to become a librarian. Books are a window to a world beyond where we live.  They help us to understand others and learn about a universe bigger than we can imagine.  It is a joy to be able to connect our students to that world and help them to navigate it.

It’s been challenging to adapt the library to distance learning, but I still enjoy sharing stories with the students and am excited that we are able to offer a curbside library.  There is a Library Page on the Meyerholz Distance Learning hub where we have information about how to access ebooks, links to story times, park adventures, live cam links to zoos and aquariums, and other resources.  I hope that the students will be able to enjoy some of the information and sites there.
