Wed, Mar 14
Meyerholz Lunch Tables
1 day before

Dear Meyerholz Families,

In light of the recent school shootings, I wanted to share with you the statements and action that National PTA and California State PTA is taking in response to gun violence.

National PTA is our nation’s largest child advocacy association. PTA's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children in the following focus areas: Education, Community Concerns, Family Engagement, Legislative Advocacy, Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF)/Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), and Health and Safety.

Are you concerned about School Safety?

PTA takes a stand on Gun Violence.

We invite you to join us in this effort.

From Tragedy to Advocacy:

Reach Out - Call or Write

On March 14, students across the country are planning to "walk out" to make their voices heard. California State PTA is asking for your help to "call out" our federal legislators and demand action.

Stand together with the voices of students and call your federal legislators on March 14 to demand stronger gun-violence prevention legislation including:

  • Prohibiting the sale and possession of assault weapons including automatic and semi-automatic weapons
  • Mandatory background checks
  • Waiting periods for all firearm purchases.

CAPTA Take Action - Includes a script and phone numbers for our federal legislators

Not comfortable calling your federal legislator:

  • Send a letter or postcard. Collect several and mail together.

As per Mr. Coleman's email this afternoon, students, parents and staff may Walk Out and gather at the lunch tables for a parent led time of reflection and taking action. Please RSVP if you and/or your child plan to attend. This is not a PTA sponsored event, but PTA supports students and families who desire to advocate for school safety.

If you have questions about PTA or would like to get more involved, please contact me at lhonma@hotmail.com.

Sincerely,

Lani Honma
