💻 ACSL Is Coming to Mission Valley Elementary!
Thu, Aug 20 10:51am

Dear Mission Valley Elementary Families,

We are excited to announce that Mission Valley Elementary will be participating in the American Computer Science League (ACSL) for the 2026–27 school year!

With the support of our Principal and school community, a parent committee will be coordinating the ACSL program for interested students in Grades 3–5.

What is ACSL?

The American Computer Science League (ACSL) is a national computer science competition for K–12 students. Students participate in four contests throughout the school year covering topics such as number systems, Boolean algebra, digital electronics, logic, programming, and other fundamental computer science concepts.

ACSL offers different divisions based on grade level and experience.

Who Should Sign Up?

We are inviting 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are interested in:

• Computer science and coding
• Math and logic
• Puzzles and problem-solving
• Learning new technology concepts
• Challenging themselves through competition

No prior ACSL or competition experience is required.

What Will the Parent Committee Coordinate?

The parent committee will help coordinate the school’s participation and provide families with information and resources related to the ACSL program.

This may include:

• ACSL registration and team coordination
• Information about the four contests
• ACSL study guides and available preparation resources
• Practice questions and previous contest materials
• Information to help students understand the contest format and topics
• Parent/student information sessions

We also plan to host an optional ACSL preparation “Info Night” approximately once a month, where students and parents can review upcoming topics, ask questions, and learn more about how to prepare for the next contest.

Important: The monthly sessions are intended to provide guidance, resources, and an opportunity to review together. They are not intended to replace individual student preparation. Students and families will be responsible for preparing and practicing between sessions.

💰 Participation Fee

There will be a participation fee for the ACSL program.

The final fee will depend on the total number of students who register, since certain program and registration costs are shared across participating students.

We will announce the final per-student fee after registration closes and we know the total number of participants.

At this time, no payment is required with this initial interest registration.

Additional information about the fee and payment process will be shared with families once registration is complete.

🏆 What About ACSL Finals?

ACSL Finals are separate from the regular school program.

At the end of the regular season, ACSL may invite qualifying students to participate in the invitation-only Finals. If a student qualifies, the invitation and registration information will come directly from ACSL.

Any Finals registration or related costs would be separate from the school’s ACSL participation program.

📣 Ready to Participate?
