Tomorrow Friday, November 14, our school community will come together to honor the courage and legacy of Ruby Bridges as part of our Walk to School Day celebration.
In 1960, at just six years old, Ruby Bridges made history as the first African American student to attend an all-white elementary school in the South. Her bravery helped open doors for future generations and became a powerful symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Ruby’s strength and determination remind us that even one person—no matter how young—can make a lasting difference.
To honor Ruby’s courage and commitment to equality, we invite all students, families, and staff to walk to school together TOMORROW, November 14, and to wear purple, the color that represents Ruby Bridges’ message of peace, courage, and unity.
Let’s walk in her footsteps—literally and figuratively—as we celebrate kindness, inclusivity, and the power of standing up for what’s right.
Where can I meet our school community to walk to school?
7:55 am-Meet at Larkspur & Landana & walk to school together.
7:55 am-Meet at the crosswalk near Sunrise/Shadelands & walk together.
Once there is a group of students and families, just starting walking to school.
In classes, students will engage in dialogues and readings about Ruby Bridges, equality, and positive changes that we can make in our world.
Thank you for helping us make this a meaningful and inspiring day for our students!
