Dear North Beach Community,
Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools (SPS), Brent Jones, released the district's latest plan to address the budget crisis today. The first step is closing four K-5 Elementary schools across the city and consolidating each of those schools’ populations into one specific, nearby school (to "keep communities together").
North Beach is on the list and the plan states our school will be “Consolidating with Viewlands Elementary at Viewlands” starting for the 25-26 school year.
There are still so many things we do not know. We have so many questions. We are sad, angry, uncertain, and disheartened by the constant back and forth and changing plans the district has released over the past year. This fight is far from over and nothing is certain. Today’s announcement is just the first step in a lengthy process of review and approval or rejection of this proposal.
Next steps and what you can do now:
- Attend the PTA Community Meeting next Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30pm on zoom to discuss the next steps for North Beach and how our community plans to respond.
- Fill out this form with any questions/comments you have about the new school closure plan. We will compile the list and answer as many as we can during the meeting on Oct 30th. We will also be sending all the questions to the district and the school board.
- The FundSPS team will have a table at the Harvest Carnival this Saturday, Oct 26th. Stop by to get more information, share your thoughts, and commiserate with other North Beach families.
We love our school, our staff, and our amazing community. We are in this fight together and this fight is just getting started!
In Solidarity,
Jennifer Markovitz
