Charter Update & Updated Timeline
Thu, Oct 17 3:40pm

Dear OSA Families,

We want to keep everyone up to speed on our charter renewal efforts and upcoming revised dates. Please read the following information carefully and mark your calendars!

The two-day site visit from OUSD went really well. They saw us for the magical place that we are! Thank you to those who helped make this happen, especially the teachers, families, and students who participated in our focus group sessions.

Here's what's up next – and we could use some support from the community!

Wednesday 10/23       The Submission

5:30 PM at La Escuelita Elementary, in the Great Room

1050 Second Ave, Oakland 94606

Ms. Smith submits our board-approved renewal packet to OUSD during public comment. We need to have a good crowd there to cheer her on! Wear your Heart of Oakland or other OSA t-shirts so folks know how much community support is out there for us! No public speaking needed – this is just to submit our documents. Our original submission was planned for 10/10 but was rescheduled due to events outside our control. We have been assured that this will not delay our hearing or decision dates.

10/22 & 10/24           Public Speaker Workshops

5:00 – 6:30 OSA Student Center

Manny Vasquez from CCSA is hosting training & support workshops for folks making public comment on 11/6. CCSA is committed to helping us successfully navigate renewal and we welcome Manny’s expertise. If you're interested, please contact mvasquez@ccsa.org

Wednesday 11/6     The Hearing

                                  Time and location TBD

OSA’s Renewal Hearing with OUSD. This is where we need LOTS of support, public comment, wearing our OSA t shirts, etc. This is our chance to make our case to the OUSD Board. Ms. Smith is presenting plus we expect lots of community public comments from folks who have been working with Manny Vasquez.

Wednesday 11/20 The Decision

Time and location TBD

This is the night that the OUSD Board votes on our renewal. There will likely be questions from the Board and Ms. Smith plus an OSA board member will be addressing them. We again need to turn out to show our support!

Thank you for your ongoing  support and commitment to OSA!
