Briefly describe your request: In an effort to support the social and emotional needs of learners, we would like to propose creating a calm down corner for the use of all students. A calm down corner is a quiet and comfortable space for children to practice self-regulation skills. There are an array of tools provided so students can practice relaxing their bodies and processing big feelings. Tools would include: literature, breathing techniques, art materials, poster prompts, mindfulness exercises, sensory tools, and technology (ipads with age appropriate apps to facilitate self-regulation strategies). The calm down corner facilitates self-management skills such as managing one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. In addition, it affords students the opportunity to gain self-awareness because they are able to explore a variety of healthy coping strategies and learn what works best for them. This year's Annual WALK-A-THON took place on October 6, 2021 and raised a total of $5,914. The proceeds will go towards student activities that are not funded by our school budget, including class trips, agenda books, class folders, assemblies, and No Child Left Inside Day. Additionally, the PTO can sponsor fun events such as the Halloween Hullabaloo Drive-Thru and Movie In Our Park! A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to the Panthers, Let’s Eat program. This program strives to ensure that no child experiences hunger and provides nutritious food throughout the summer months to children within the Point Pleasant School district.
