$5K FOR PS20 - SOCIAL JUSTICE RUN Important information
Fri, Jun 11 12:29am

Hello PS20 Family!

TOMORROW, JUNE 11TH is the date of our 1st Annual $5K for PS20 SOCIAL JUSTICE RUN!!!
This will be the first event since the 2020 Brotherhood Dinner to bring together our entire school community; students, teachers, administrators and parents, in support of our commitment to ensuring that PS20 is a place where all students and families are valued and affirmed.

Thus far we've raised close to $3500 in web donations, so let's keep going!!

Here are some important notes for tomorrow:

Groupings are:

  • Group 1 | Pre-k  & Kindergarten (9:00am - 10:00am)
  • Group 2 | 1st Grade & 2nd Grade (10:00am - 11:00am)
  • Group 3 | 3rd grade & 4th Grade (11:00am - 12:00pm)
  • Group 4 | 5th Grade - THE SENIOR RUN (12:00pm - 1:00pm)
  1. Be sure to make your child’s teacher of any health condition that may/should prohibit your child from running.

  2. Again, children are allowed to walk or not participate should they choose.

  3. For safety, all children running should have sneakers. Sandals, slippers, dress shoes, high-heels and barefeet are safety risks that cannot be allowed when running. Student's without sneakers may walk the course.

  4. Please send your child a water bottle, if possible (labeled with their name).  We’d like to reduce our waste.

  5. VOLUNTEER!!  At PS20 we have always been able to depend on parents who step up and make themselves available to make these events run as smoothly as possible.  Aside from the sign-up to check in remote families, having parents along the route cheering the kids on!  Beyond the moral support, having extra eyes on the kids to help improves the overall safety of the event.

  6. We will have a videographer recording the event for the school, provided by Inquiring Minds, whom we partner with for Kid’s Council, the learning walls and our increased work around civics in the classroom.  Video will be used for PS20 purposes and not made available for use outside of PS20 related initiatives.

  7. NYC POLITICAL CANDIDATES WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE to speak on a number of the issues that the kids will be running for and their ideas about how NYC can better serve marginalized New Yorkers.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to come and engage.
