PS 20 Family,
So it's officially the 1st day of summer vacation and I just wanted to take one final opportunity to thank you and celebrate you! This year has been marked by highs and lows, but we weathered the storms (and there were many) together and ended on a high note - with some really amazing achievements.
One of the things that has always stood out about PS 20, for me is the ways in which it enlarged and expanded my understanding of what it means to be a family. We entered the school as a family of 4 (and then 5) but are leaving as a family of 4 or 5 hundred. My wife and I are blessed to have gained parents, teachers and administrators who have doubled as surrogate aunties and uncles for our children. I, personally have gained an "Aunt Connie", a Muslim "big sister", a Jewish sister, and an uncle who is a Baptist Bishop - not to mention dozens and dozens of family members of many races, religions and ethnicities.
Needless to say that being a family isn't always easy. Family can be the ones to make you the happiest and, at times hurt you the most. Some of us may even have strained relationships within our traditional families, so It takes an incredible amount of faith, trust and courage to make a conscious decision to grow your family with members of your school community; to be vulnerable.
THANK YOU for being our extended family. Be patient, forgiving and graceful with one another. Work to see the best in one another. Love one another and continue to grow our family.
Much love and best wishes to you all.
