Dear PS20 Community,

Hope everyone had a restful break. Tomorrow has been declared a SNOW DAY, so we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday. We're also looking forward to welcoming the PS20 community to school on Friday for Brotherhood Celebration (a potluck sign-up sheet will be ready soon)!

THIS WEEK

AFTERSCHOOL CLASSES WITH BROOKLYN MUSIC SCHOOL

PS20 is one of the lucky grantees of the Cultural After-School Adventures Program (CASA) through the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. For many years now, we have enjoyed *free* after school arts programming with Brooklyn Music School for PS20 students in Grades 3-5.

Spring music classes with BMS will commence this year starting February 23, 2026. Classes will be held from 2:40 to 3:30 p.m. every week until approximately June 5 (except for choir). To participate in the woodwind and brass classes, students will need to bring their own mouthpieces.

NEW FUNDRAISING PARTNER

New York International Children's Film Festival (February 28 - March 15, 2026): Check out incredible films from around the world curated specifically for ages 3–18 (and beyond)! For the last 30 years, NYICFF has built a reputation as the go-to for a diverse, dynamic, and thought-provoking selection of films. You can raise money for our PTA just by getting tickets!   • All of NYICFF's (Oscar®-qualifying!) short film programs, which vary by age and/or theme

  • The feature My Life in Versailles, based on a short of the same name that won the NYICFF grand prize in 2020

  • Opening Spotlight presentation of Disney/Pixar's Hoppers before it opens in theaters on March 6!

  • Plus: parties, premieres, filmmaker Q&As, special guests, and more.

We are excited to kick off our annual Pi(e) Day Yumraiser with Four & Twenty Blackbirds! Celebrate Pi Day with a circular treat and choose from four of their signature flavors… or enjoy them all! COMMITTEE UPDATES & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • STEAM Committee looking for parent volunteers to join the committee and assist with Science Fair sponsor outreach. ➡️ steam@ps20.org 

    The PS20 Science Fair will be held on March 27 and is a requirement for all Grade 5 students (and any younger students wishing to participate). Interested parents, please join the committee group on Konstella or email steam@ps20.org. 

    • We are looking for parent volunteers to coach & assist students working on their science fair projects after school on March 3, 10 and 17 (approx. 3 - 4pm).
    • We are also reaching out to parents & STEAM-related organizations or vendors who would be interested in having a demonstration table at the PS20 Science Fair on March 27 to show off what they do! In the past, we've had medical imaging and robotics demos.

  • The International & Multicultural Families Committee invites parent volunteers to co-lead our upcoming monthly multicultural celebrations and help keep our IB cultural values—diversity, inclusion, and global understanding—strong and visible, especially in today’s challenging political climate. Ideally, we’re aiming for 3–4 volunteers per event so these celebrations can move forward. ➡️ Email analourdes@ps20.org or complete our form

  • The International & Multicultural Families Committee invites the community to join the Book Club for a community reading of "Mother Mary Comes to Me" by Arundhati Roy. We will meet to discuss the book on March 24. 

  • Community Support & Service currently seeking gently used PANTS / BOTTOMS & SHIRTS in sizes 6 - 11 for the Community Closet. All are welcome to 'shop' the Community Closet on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings after 8:30am. 

  • Literacy Committee is proud to announce PS20 Reads! Read-A-Thon 2026 which will be held February 27 - March 8, 2026. Set up or reactivate your fundraising & reading log account on https://www.forourschool.org/start?code=918263 

  • Fundraising Committee is gearing up for PS20 PTA’s Spring Gala -- our biggest fundraiser of the year -- seeking amazing items for the live and silent auction at The Love Ball!

    * Donate Items: We welcome all donations such as apparel, jewelry, artwork, lessons, dining & entertainment experiences, special services, and vacation home stays!

    * Find Sponsors: Do you have connections to local businesses, restaurants, or organizations that might sponsor the event or donate something special? Help us reach out! Sponsorships can be monetary or in-kind donations (e.g., catering, auction items, event services).
