COMMITTEE UPDATES & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Green Arts: Thanks again to everyone who has helped bring the new PS 20 Learning Garden to life. From schlepping materials from the old garden, setting-up the raised beds, and getting access to water - it has truly been a group effort, and the students and teachers LOVE the new space. The most exciting addition to our gardening curriculum has been Hedgework @ PS20 (thanks to parents Antonina Simeti and Mark Shepard and their partner Marek Walczak for making this partnership possible), integrating environmental sensing and real-time data streams into dynamic learning activities within the context of PS20’s International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, even including Art, Music, PE and Dance! Working with admin and teachers to integrate into the curriculum has already begun, and will roll-out in the fall.
#ISO Writing Help: No grant writing experience necessary, but research, drafting, proofreading, and budget prep help needed for two grant applications:
- Arts for Early Learners Grant (due June 18) - Funding for a Studio in a School residency for 3K+ Pre-K. You would be working on a team to edit last year’s application.
- NYCPS Sustainability Grant (due June 22) - Funding for the next phase of Hedgework @ PS20, gardening, and bees. You would be working with other parents to build on last year’s successful application.
PS20 Piggy Bank is now up to approx. $130,000 - thank you!
5 more weeks to reach our goal!
