PS20 AfterSchool Program Committee - JEDI - Please join us on Monday, September 23 from 4-5pm to learn more about the JEDI, Rainbow Club, International Families Committee and Community Service & Support Committees. At this meeting, the committee leads will share the work they have been engaged in and begin discussing/brainstorming ideas for this year's work. Please come to learn, listen and share your ideas!
The JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Committee was created to celebrate and uplift the diversity of our school community and work with the school leadership to find ways to integrate JEDI concepts into school curriculum and activities and help teach our children that they can positively impact and help make change in their community.
-
The International Families Committee organizes events that celebrate the various cultures that PS20 families come from and work to make the PS20 community more inclusive for immigrant families. International Families Committee events are for all PS20 families! Last year, the International Families Committee helped identify a teacher to provide English classes for PS 20 families whose first language isn't English.
-
The Community Service & Support Committee are a group of parents who organize opportunities for the school community to engage in community service and support PS20 families in need and the broader Fort Greene/Clinton Hill community. The CSS Committee helped launch the PS20 Community Closet - a place where PS20 families can get free clothing, school supplies and other necessities - and organized support for new immigrant arrivals in Brooklyn.
- The Rainbow Club will meet on the second Friday of every month beginning October 11, 2024, from afterschool until 4 pm. If you are interested in signing up your child for the October meeting (or attending yourself), please fill out this form. The information will help our wonderful leader, Ms. Sarah Murray, coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs with teachers and afterschool programs.
The club is open to all members of our PS 20 community - including LGBTQIA+ students and families, as well as student allies. The Rainbow Club is intended to help promote a safe, healthy, and inclusive school environment. Each meeting provides time for students and families to play and connect through reading, arts and crafts, dance breaks, and other fun activities. The group meets monthly, and in June will participate as a school community in the Brooklyn Pride March. If you are interested, we encourage you to join the Rainbow Committee group in Konstella to receive all of the latest news and updates from our community.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Murray or else our parent coordinators, Danica You-Hamilton and/or Amaranta Medina-Seabright via Konstella.
