Pride March with the PS20 Rainbow Club

Hello PS 20 Community –

As you may have noticed in earlier Konstella messages, a poster at school, or a flyer given to you by a PS 20 parent, this Sunday, June 26th,  PS 20’s Rainbow Club (in our inaugural year!) will be participating in Manhattan’s Pride March.

Please join us this weekend to show your support for our beautiful and diverse PS 20 community, including our LGBTQIA+ students, caregivers, and staff, as well as allies, all while having fun and participating in one of the highlights of summer in NYC. This will be an extremely special event for our community. We were assigned a great spot in the March (1st wave, Group 29) and NYC Council member Crystal Hudson, who represents District 35, has also indicated her support and plans on meeting up with our group for at least a portion of the March route.

If you are interested in supporting the Rainbow Club, but are not able to attend the March, we encourage you to buy a Club t-shirt - $10 for children’s sizes (small – medium), $15 for adult sizes (small – extra-large), paid via cash or Venmo (although if cost is an issue, please let me or Danica know). A photo of the shirt is below. There will be parents tabling on Thursday and Friday before school, in front of the Adelphi entrance (weather dependent). If you can’t make it in person to purchase a shirt, please contact PS 20 parent, Danica You-Hamilton, via Konstella and she can help you.

Here are the basic logistics for the March – full details will be provided after you have signed up:

SIGN UP HERE This will allow organizers to have an accurate pre-march headcount and for our group to have your contact information to provide you with key event information.

MEET UP TIME AND LOCATION: 11 am SHARP, 30th Street and 6th Avenue, in the spot assigned for Group 29 in the first wave of marchers (a great group assignment!). Must enter 30th Street from 6th Avenue. We must be on time to go through the proper check-in procedures and have enough time to get into place prior to the official 12 pm start time. The official finish line for the March is 15th Street and 7th Avenue.

ESTIMATED MARCH LENGTH: 1.25 miles long, 1.5 hours march time. If your group needs to leave the march before the end of the parade route, there will be NYPD and official Pride March staff and volunteers available to help with a safe exit.

Finally, for those who may not know, the Rainbow Club is a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ kids, children of those from the LGBTQIA+ community, friends, and allies. Our doors are open to all. The Pride March is a joyous time to celebrate and show support of the community too, and to march in recognition of the event’s activist roots, as well as in support of LGBTQIA+ rights, visibility, and peace. Again, this will be a very special event for our PS 20 community and I strongly encourage you to join.
