Here are the slides presented, meeting minutes, and recording.
Some highlights in case you missed it:
- Updates from Principal Blyden:
- Accessibility project - 3 year project to add accessible elevators, facade work, chairlifts, accessible bathrooms, security cameras, and a rooftop garden.
- 3rd floor bathrooms are open and 2nd floor bathrooms should be complete in mid October.
- PS20 received drastic budget cuts from the DOE this year and was not awarded the small class size funding grant. To operate the school on the smaller budget, the number of classes/teachers per grade were reduced in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades, resulting in bigger class sizes. The school is working to support the teachers and students.
- The Strategic Instructional Period will help ensure that all students’ learning goals are met, even in large classes. Academic screeners are used to group students according to scores, so that everyone gets instruction at the appropriate level.
- PROSE days are half days throughout the year for teachers to look into IB inquiry and align instruction to student needs. First one is Fri Oct 9th.
- More Q+A in the minutes and video! - PTA budget update vote
- We voted to add $30k of PTA reserves to PS20 budget to fund substitute teachers. The motion passed. Due to budget cuts the school budget did not have enough money to cover substitute teachers all year long. - Upcoming events:
Fri Oct 9 - Early dismissal at 11:40 for PROSE
Mon Oct 12 - No School for Indigenous Peoples’ / Italian Heritage Day
Sat Oct 17 - PS20 Octoberfest!
Fri Oct 30 - PS20’s Annual Literacy Parade
